Nourish Your Body

What you put into your body can directly affect your mood. Try to avoid processed, sugary foods and increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables to help your body function at its best.

The more processed foods you eat, the more likely you are to feel sluggish and lethargic, which can deplete your energy levels and leave you feeling demotivated. 

To stay happy, eat a balanced diet and incorporate plenty of goodness to help boost your mood.

Tips on How to Be Happy: Partake in Regular Exercise

Exercise is a great way to stay happy. You may be new to exercise, but little and often whilst you build up your strength and stamina will help you to boost your mood.

When you exercise, you release endorphins which help to reduce pain and anxiety and increase your feelings of happiness. 

Partaking in regular exercise will also help improve your physical wellbeing by reducing the risk of heart problems and improving your strength and balance. This will allow you to live a longer, healthier and more independent life.

Tips on How to Be Happy: Be Kind to Yourself

One of our top tips on how to be happy is taking the time to treat yourself with kindness; it’s essential for your overall happiness.

Being kind to yourself can involve fuelling your body with nutritious food, energising your body with exercise, speaking to yourself with respect, and being mindful of how you spend your time, and who you spend it with.

Adopting just a few of these habits can help you to feel happier. If you ever find yourself in a negative environment, remove yourself where possible. You deserve to be in happy, positive situations that are going to benefit you.

Each morning, whilst you’re getting ready for the day, why not take a look in the mirror and tell yourself a few positive affirmations? Practise smiling at yourself and feeding positivity into your thoughts.

Express Gratitude for the Little Things

When you’re feeling low, it can be helpful to think about all the things you’re grateful for. 

You may be thankful for your health, your family and friends, good food, or having a roof over your head. 

Making a point of acknowledging each of the aspects of your life you’re thankful for, and expressing gratitude for them, can help you to appreciate the little things in life when you’re feeling down, which can help to cheer you up. 

You could try starting a gratitude journal. Writing down the things you’re grateful for each day can help you to focus and gain clarity on what really matters to you, and give you a fresh perspective on the things that don’t. This can encourage you to weed out the things from each day that don’t bring you joy, leading to a clearer vision of how to be happy.

Spend Time Amongst Nature

Spending time amongst nature can have a positive, healing effect on your life. Soaking up the sunshine will offer you a welcome boost of Vitamin D, whilst going for a walk on a chilly autumn day can encourage you to be mindful of your surroundings and appreciate the beauty of nature.

Taking a walk through the woods, for example, can often have a calming effect on people. They can have a restorative effect and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

Try to engage each of your senses as you walk; listening for the sounds of the birds, the smell of the earth after rain, noticing the beautiful, vibrant colours and feeling the leaves crunch underfoot can help you connect with nature. This can help to reduce anxiety and help you to feel happier.
