What do people say about living in an Oak Retirement development?

Friary Meadow is now open and our first homeowners are starting to settle in – here is what some have said:

“We moved into a bungalow at Friary Meadow just a short time ago but we both can see it is going to enable us to enjoy a very pleasant retirement and have an independent lifestyle for as long as possible.
The Management and Care team are really friendly and very helpful, any teething problems have been promptly attended to.
The property is warm and comfortable with plenty of resident wildlife to keep us amused.”

  • Homeowners at Friary Meadow

” My husband and I are very happy we made the decision to move to Friary Meadow.  We have a lovely light and spacious contemporary apartment.  The communal restaurant, coffee bar and cinema mean we can have company or join activities when we welcome it, and privacy if we don’t.  When weather permits there is plenty of space on the outdoor terraces for drinks outdoors or a potter around the safe and accessible landscaped ‘village’ which is regularly maintained.

The most important factor for us is the provision of lovely on-site carers who can provide the continuity and expertise a care agency cannot.  There is always someone on hand 24/7 too, if there is a fall or some other emergency.

Another important consideration was good road access for any visiting distant family and friends.    Adjacent is new country park which will be a chance to be out in the open and a great attraction for visiting families.

The variation of local shopping is pleasing too with the choice of retail outlet, shopping centre or local village.”

In short, we love it!

And here is what people say about life at Honeybourne Gate in Cheltenham, an Oak Retirement site that has been open for a while:

“Mum and Dad have moved into Honeybourne Gate  and  I just wanted to pass on to you how pleased we all (my parents and the family) are with the whole set up at Honeybourne. The stand out issue is your staff, who have got the ‘difficult’ things right – a caring, kind and yet professional approach to the owners. For example, the help my father now receives has been transformational for him. This very personal service is done with kindness and discretion.”

“Just to say how delighted we are with the thoughtful attention from the all the staff at Honeybourne Gate. Mum has settled in to her lovely new apartment really well, made all the easier having friendly, helpful people around who I see genuinely care. I’m so relieved my mum is being helped to live independently in such a kind and safe environment.”

– The son of an owner

“The love, concern and practical help over the last three difficult months have been wonderful. The sense of security which this has brought not only to me, but to my family, is greatly appreciated. Thank you.”

 – An owner at Honeybourne Gate

“A few months ago we both sold our homes in leafy Leckhampton and bought apartments in Honeybourne Gate. Moving here was a decision that neither of us has regretted for a moment!

Living here give us complete independence with the reassurance of knowing that help is at hand if needed and best of all, freedom from the responsibilities of maintaining a house and garden. We would encourage anyone to come and have a look – you won’t be disappointed and may well be very surprised.”

– Two apartment owners at Honeybourne Gate

“The staff at Honeybourne Gate are lovely and thoughtful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The apartments are very well laid out and well equipped.”

“My mother moved to Honeybourne Gate from her house where she lived for 60 years –a really big move and decision. The staff have been fantastic in helping her settle in and the increasing occupation and activities (afternoon tea and weekly film showings in the great cinema room at the moment) only helps her enjoy her new surroundings. I would recommend anyone to seriously consider Honeybourne Gate as it really is retirement living at is best.”

“[mother] is settling in well and I have to say that much of this is due to your exceptional staff who we find first class. Nothing is too difficult for them and they go way out of their way to make living in Honeybourne an interesting and enjoyable experience.”

In April of this year I underwent major surgery. When it came time for me to be discharged I was neither feeling well enough or confident enough to be returning home where I live alone. On my arrival home to my apartment unable to care for myself my daughter stayed with me for a few days. During this time we were able to assess the amount of assistance I would require, once she returned home to her family. The staff at Honeybourne Gate were wonderful and very quickly ordered the necessary equipment I needed,

Arrangements were made for the personal assisted care I required and for freshly cooked meals to be brought to my apartment direct from the restaurant each day. A member of staff popped in regularly, happy to assist if necessary, even if it just meant making a welcome cup of tea and a chat. I felt safe knowing someone would answer my call bell and be with me immediately any time of day or night.

At Honeybourne Gate nothing is too much trouble in assuring that owners are happy and relaxed in a friendly environment.

Gone are the days when going into care/assisted living meant living in fear of becoming ill or incapacitated and as a consequence being asked to move on.

Obviously I appreciate if my care needs ever require specialist permanent 24hr nursing care, I would need to move into an appropriate place of care, which would be the case wherever I lived.

Today I am well and my future is bright, I am enjoying taking pleasant walks along the old Honeybourne railway line and visiting the Churchill gardens. Very soon I hope to be taking the short walk into town.

I cannot thank everyone enough for their kindness and care that went a long way to making my recovery such a success.
